MOBIO is the designated state affiliate of the Biotechnology Industry Organization. Gillespie is active in the Council of State Bioscience Associations, having served on the CSBA executive committee for six years. In 2010-2011, Gillespie was elected by his counterparts in other states to serve as the national Chairman of CSBA.  Gillespie is Chairman Emeritus of CSBA.
